I have been involved with indymedia since 2000, and have worked with a number of the local collectives. I spend most of my indymedia energy now on the editorial collective for indymedia.us. In my other life I am a currently a student of theology, in the process of pursuing ordination to ministry through the United Methodist Church. Occasionally these lives come together and that is fun!

Gathering organizers, who have said their intention is to shut down the peace vigil, instruct their supporters to "leave the kids at home for this one."
CCPM and Veterans for Peace Chapter 31 are calling for support of all ages to mount a peaceful, all-colors response. "Bring flags of all kinds," says CCPM organizer Karen Porter. "African, Irish, American, Peace, Red Cross... all kinds of flags!"

Over the past decade, one group has worked to link International Women's Day with a strident call for the return of military budgets to the community. Since 2000, the
Global Women's Strike has held coordinated IWD protests in dozens of countries, including Trinidad, Tanzania, India, England, and Venezuela.
This year in Philadelphia, a monthly picket of mothers and families fighting to reclaim children unjustly taken by the Department of Human Resources joined forces with the GWS's call for society to "invest in caring, not killing."
