PHILADELPHIA - May 6 - On Saturday, May 2nd, several hundred demonstrators from a coalition of 30 national and regional veteran, youth and peace groups, including Iraq Veterans Against the War and Veterans for Peace, protested what they claimed were unethical military recruitment of teenagers at Franklin Mills Mall in northeast Philadelphia. Seven protesters were arrested including a mother of a Marine who just returned from his third tour of duty in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Susan Galleymore, US military mother who made front-page headlines from the San Francisco Chronicle to France's Le Monde, when she took a dangerous journey to Iraq in 2004, to visit her soldier son stationed in the 'Sunni Triangle', north of Baghdad is coming to Philadelphia. On Wednesday, May 6th, Galleymore will speaking at her Philadelphia book launch along with local US military mothers and Iraqi refugee mothers recently resettled in the area. (see details below)

During her trip to Iraq, Susan was moved and inspired by the stories she heard from the mothers of Iraq...... This started her on a journey interviewing mothers in war zones including Iraq, Israel and the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, Afghanistan and the US.

What has emerged from these stories is a powerful new book, Long Time Passing: Mothers Speak About War and Terror [PLUTO PRESS (Distributed by Palgrave Macmillan)], a collection of dramatic first-person heroic stories giving insight into the impact of war on mothers, families, communities, and cultures here and abroad.

South African born, now based in San Francisco's Bay area, Susan Galleymore continues to share the stories of those affected by war as founder of MotherSpeak ( www.motherspeak.org ), as a radio host for Raising Sand Radio (www.raisingsandradio.org), and a counselor on the G.I. Rights Hotline.

WHO: Susan Galleymore, the mother of a U.S. soldier, made international headlines by taking the extraordinary and dangerous step of traveling to Iraq to visit her son stationed on a military base in the so-called Sunni Triangle, north of Baghdad.

What she found in Iraq challenged her to continue her journey interviewing mothers in war zones including Iraq, Israel and the West Bank, Lebanon, Syria, and Afghanistan—as well as in the U.S. These powerful first-person stories offer dramatic insight into the impact of war on mothers, families, communities, and cultures around the world.

Long Time Passing: Mothers Speak About War and Terror gets to the heart of extreme social experiences—war and warriors, mothers and children, communities and cultures—and explores the meaning of courage, fear, and leadership.
