Dave Lindorff | 08.21.2008
There has clearly been a decision made in the Obama campaign to soft-pedal liberal positions and to make Obama appear “safe” and uncontroversial. The result has been his precipitous slide in the polls.

If Barack Obama wins the White House, it will be a considerable political achievement. It will be made possible only by the votes of millions of whites, most especially younger voters. This does not diminish such an achievement, it just sharpens the nature of it. But Black faces in high places does not freedom make.

The La Riva/Puryear PSL Presidential Campaign is proud to announce that we have achieved ballot status in New Jersey, Iowa and Utah! We are already on the ballot in five other states: Arkansas, Vermont, Colorado, Florida and Washington. Over the next five weeks, we will be working to gain ballot access in many additional states, including New York, Louisiana, Wisconsin and Rhode Island.

While an Illinois state senator in January 2004, Obama declared that it was time "to end the embargo with Cuba" because it had "utterly failed in the effort to overthrow Castro." But speaking as a presidential candidate to a Cuban-American audience in Miami in August 2007, he said he would not "take off the embargo" as president because it is "an important inducement for change." He thus went from a good policy for the wrong reason to the wrong policy for the wrong reason.

If his global tour had one flaw, it was that it was too successful, for it cast an unflattering light on the incumbent Bush Administration, which is, to put it lightly, far from popular in the world today. This, of course, also impacts McCain's campaign.
Whether he helped his domestic campaign is questionable.
What is not is the palpable hunger of many countries for a change from what has been.

Millions have apparently forgotten the bitter lessons from the 2006 mid term election, when Democrats prevailed in congressional elections, formed a slight majority in both houses, and proceeded to do -- nothing....Elections aren't endings -- they are beginnings -- and movements mustn't stop moving; they should protest more!

At a time when the tens of millions of people who have the potential strength to stop this war are being pacified and corralled into a dead-end, what meaning does it have to call oneself “anti-war” if you are not protesting outside the convention? Anyone serious about stopping this whole direction of unjust war, torture and fascist repression should be in the streets.

Cindy Sheehan gives a candid interview in which she explains exactly why she is running for Congress in order to oppose Rep. Nancy Pelosi and remove her from her throne.
Cindy Sheehan in San Francisco Pelosi is a corporate elitist who has lost touch with her constituents, if she ever had any contact with them at all. #file_1# In a July, 2007 Zogby poll (1) only 14 percent of Americans thought the Democratic Congress – led by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi - was doing a good job.
