The word from one of the peace mediators who were taken off the terror list at the request of a UN peace conference in Prague was that Mullah Baradar was involved in earlier peace feelers with the US, and he was a major author of the Taliban’s new strict code of conduct, google it, which stopped attacks on shopping bazaars and funerals, religious processions and on worship sites.  Dick Cheney and Cheney’s co-conspirator are pushing in the other direction, in favor of water-boarding him. 

If you google, “the Green Room” Pakistan, you will get speculation that Pakistan arrested him yet not Mullah Omar, because Pakistan didn’t want him to negotiate peace talks with Saudi Arabia in a way that would leave Pakistan out of the loop .  Omar saying “no” to Saudi Arabian’s conditions should have been the end of the story unless Baradar was seeing if he renouncing bin Laden would have been enough to get the Saudi’s involved in negotiations. 

Hawks betraying Doves more than fighting with the other side is an old story whether it was involved here or not.  Omar won’t publically condemn or expose bin Laden, just like likewise, Obama isn’t about to heavily condemn much less arrest Dick Cheney.  And Omar isn’t about to turn in bin Laden.  I actually hope that Baradar isn’t forced to turn over bin Laden either, although one part of myself craves both bin Laden and Cheney being arrested together, and a guess a touch of a sadist in myself despite years of the opposite pretension would like to see Cheney and bin Laden placed in the same detention cell, each getting to choose how much the other is punished.

If both Hawks and Doves get nasty in their lobbying attempts of Barrack Obama, Hawks always win.  However, how about a picket at the Canadian and British Embassy demanding they get out of Afghanistan unless Baradar is treated like the diplomat he is.
