Southeastern Pennsylvania Coast Day
event detailsposted by: begins: Sep 20, 11:00 am ends: Sep 20, 4:00 pm location: Penn’s Landing, Walnut Plaza, Walnut and Columbus Streets, Philadelphia, PA |
Did you know Philadelphia has been known for its coastline far longer than its brotherly love, “Cradle of Liberty,” and even its cheesesteaks? Discover the wonders of Philadelphia’s tidal rivers at Southeastern Pennsylvania Coast Day, where more than 20 interactive displays and children’s activities will be featured near the RiverLink Ferry terminal at Penn’s Landing on Saturday, September 20, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Feeling adventurous? Get a "duck's-eye view" of the Delaware River aboard a Ride the Ducks amphibious vehicle, embark on the Wonders of Water Challenge, or try a freshly roasted Delaware Bay oyster. All this and more will be available to the public for free.
A free shuttle will also be taking people to and from the nearby Fairmount Water Works Interpretive Center, a historical landmark where visitors can discover a boatload about the Schuylkill River, its vast watershed, and much more. Other aquatic attractions are within easy walking distance, including the Independence Seaport Museum and, just across the river, Adventure Aquarium.
