Immigrant Workers Rounded Up at Cleaning Company Headquarters; Union Plans Rally Thursday

Employees of cleaning contractor ABM were locked into a staff meeting at company headquarters and arrested by Immigrations and Custom Enforcement (ICE) Officers. A support rally is scheduled for 1:30 on Thursday.  August 5th, 2008 Norristown PA On Thursday, July 31st, 2008, employees who clean various office buildings for American Building Maintenance (ABM) showed up for a manadatory staff meeting at the company's regional corporate headquarters in King of Prussia, PA. The conference room doors were locked and several of the workers were arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Some of the detainees who have small children were released with electronic ankle bracelets that identify their location. Other detainees are believed to be in the regional detention facility in York, PA. Today, several of the workers and their supporters gathered in front of St. Patrick's Church in Norristown, PA. Released detainees showed their ankle bracelets to the media and talked about what it was like to show up expecting a staff meeting and be arrested. Many of the arrested workers are members of the union SEIU 32BJ which is holding a support rally at 1:30 on the Montgomery County Courthouse steps in Norristown.

its not fair...and from what
Submitted by Anonymous (no verificado) on Mié, 08/06/2008 - 1:28pmits not fair...and from what I understand ABM knew immagration would be there but would have had to pay something like $10,000 per employee that didnt show up. .. I would have preferred to lose my job, rather than knowing people would be deported..Some of these people have lived here all their lives. They are just trying to make a living, doing the jobs that no one else want to do for $8.50 an hour.....let people live in peace....At the end of the day ...we all come from families that migrated into the united states at one point.
