1. First of all, Karen Porter unilaterally broke communications. Her email to Rich Davis stated she wished no further contact in any form and threatened legal action if he did. There’s also any number of CCPM emails where Porter (in her words) ordered the CCPM members to not speak with anyone, even to shun the other side. Guess the American side could wear Ahmadinejad masks and trick Porter into a diplomatic talks.

2. When there were discussions it was with Rich Davis, who is not GOA, whatever that is. He was the local guy who alone took the opposite view in that public place and was harassed, shoved and screamed at for exercising his First Amendment constitutional rights.

3. CCPM has a right to protest and everyone has a right to protest them. You have a right to say something. You don’t have a right suppress someone’s opinion about what you say.

4. Separation basically is at the WCPD’s insistence even though they paint a Happy Face on it. They want to keep it as uncomplicated as possible and schmooze their way to a solution, which is good. In many ways, the WCPD does as good a job as the Philadelphia Civil Affairs Unit created by Philadelphia Police Inspector George Fencil and recognized as the national leader in such policing.

When CCPM got out of hand and became violent against other citizens and peace officers, resulting in two CCPM members being arrested, that’s when separation became serious.

But then again, Porter has turned a blind eye to the CCPM crossing over and verbally harassing the CCVM. Carrie came over and harassed a young lady about her sign. Rick came over and harassed Rich about some flyer that had absolutely no connection with Saturdays. If two of the better know, more experienced “peace activists” can’t keep a diplomatic agreement, who can? Others have crossed to "take a photo" over the CCPM and credit the CCPM for ignoring their childish behavior. When they preach that peace is the answer and can’t be peaceful, what hope for peace can there be?

Funny to note that both CArrie and Rick claimed a fig leaf that their actions were “neutral” because they were not holding a sign while harassing someone. How childish and laughable. The CCPM, especially it’s leader need peacekeeper training in the worst way.

4. And then there’s the leadership who encourage violence. John Grant, the immediate past el-presidente of the local VFP (a/k/a Old Age Home For Vietnam Veterans Against the War) repeated has advised his members to hit back if hit. Really? “Is That What Ghandi Would Do?” Especially when it’s a very small 50 yard by 50 yard box where as reported, “…the police keep a steady presence.” Wouldn’t a true Veteran For Peace set an example and advise “Retreat loudly yelling for a peace officer” over violence and taking the law into one‘s own hands?

The court record is that the guy holding a "Veteran For Peace" sign was arrested for assault.

And then there is Porter’s dark, foreboding “Blood would flow…“ email about veterans that assure her that they would violently attack the Americans on the other side (“blood would flow”) because they would be unable to control themselves. So they stay away she claims. As an officer of the court, she has a duty to inform Chief Bohn of the identities of these peace thugs so his peace officers can identify this threat if and when it appears at High and Market Streets.

If they can’t keep themselves from giving into violent urges, which have serious consequences and should be a deterant, what’s to stop them from showing up, for which there are no consequences, hence much less of a deterant. Well until they act out their violent urges that is.

Again, as an officer of the court, knowing what she knows (assuming she didn’t lie and make it up), she has a duty to mitigate potential criminal violence. The way to do that is share the identities of these thugs with the WCPD. Ask yourself, “What Would Ghandi Do?” “What Would The Professional Review Board Decide?"

Now that that her email is out in the public domain, should these veterans she describes harm anyone, she’d be liable if she didn’t take action to mitigate the potential violence.

As National Director for Operations for Gathering of Eagles, I can say that no one from our organization has ever had talks with Karen or anyone from her group. We were invited to participate this weekend in honor of the Army's 233rd birthday.

The "kids" comment relates to the party afterwards. As for the other comments taken out of context I would simply ask, "How many members of GOE have ever been detained, arrested or otherwise engaged by law enforcement?" The answer is zero, nation wide. Can Karen's "movement" say likewise?

We fully intend to stand with Rich Davis in a support role only. While we fully believe that Karen's efforts are hurtful to the cause of fighting terrorism, we who have worn the uniform understand that their speech is protected by those whom they disparage. We are showing up to wave the Flag, honor the Army's 233rd and let the men and women who are winning two wars know that they have public support.

A few observations: 1. “in recognition for the 233rd anniversary of the US Military." In case you hadn't noticed, there is no such thing as "The US Military" that celebrates an anniversary. There are five BRANCHES of the Armed Forces, of which the U.S. ARMY will celebrate its birthday on 14 Jun. 2. As a Veteran, the mother of a veteran and a member of GOE, I take GREAT exception at being called 'pro-war.' The LAST person who WANTS to go to war is the soldier (sailor, airman, marine, coastie) because they KNOW what it could cost. Do we want our sons, daughters, husbands, wives, brothers, sisters, grandparents home - YES! However, we (and they) wish to come home VICTORIOUS and YES, that is quite possible, but their mission is made more difficult and dangerous by the likes of the peace movements who do nothing more than embolden the enemy. 3. I won't go into detail, but, as was mentioned in a previous post, Flag Day is ONLY for the Flag of the United States of America. If ms porter and her band wish to celebrate diversity by having a flag show, establish a separate 'holiday' for it, not debase the one that exists for the Stars and Stripes.

Some commenters here state "We're not pro-war, just pro-victory!" There's no meaningful distinction between the two ideas. To be in favor of "victory" is to be in favor of sending still more people into Iraq to fight and kill and die, to spill blood and create devastation.
And all for a lie, that Iraq was threatening the US.
Iraqis from all political groups and ethnicities have made it quite clear with the dispute over the US's stated desire to possess up to nearly 60 bases, plus the right to determine when Iraq has come under attack from without, that they have NO desire for the American occupation of their country to continue.

Several of the VVAW activists backtracked significantly on their WSI statements:

· Douglas Craig claimed at WSI that members of his battalion had fired mortar rounds each night into a local dump, intentionally killing civilians who were scavenging for food. Craig told investigators he had no direct knowledge of these events and expressed misgivings about making allegations in Detroit he could not substantiate.

· Larry Craig claimed at WSI that he watched US soldiers murder a Vietnamese civilian and, on another occasion, desecrate Vietnamese graves. Craig admitted to investigators that the man who was killed could have been Vietcong, and that the soldier allegedly digging in a cemetery could have been looking for weapons caches.

· Donald Donner claimed at WSI that Army personnel had murdered a Vietnamese male, intentionally wounded a 14-year-old Vietnamese girl, indiscriminately slaughtered livestock and failed to bury enemy dead. Donner admitted to the CID that his stories were actually lies, rumors and accounts of accidental events.

· John Lytle claimed at WSI that his unit murdered civilians by destroying villages with artillery fire without making any effort to determine who was there. However, Lytle told the CID that the villages were actually fired on because it was suspected that Vietcong occupied them and incoming fire had been received from the area.

· Robert McConnachie claimed at WSI that Army troops in a convoy threw C-ration cans at Vietnamese children with such force as to kill one or two. He also said an artillery unit had intentionally shelled a hospital and killed civilians. McConnachie backtracked when questioned by military investigators, saying that no Vietnamese children were actually killed by troops throwing C-rations. He said he now believed that the alleged killing of civilians in a hospital by artillery fire was accidental.

· Ronald Palosaari claimed at WSI that Army troops killed two children and an old lady by throwing a grenade into a bunker next to a house. He also said he saw a Vietnamese soldier cut off the ear of a NVA soldier who had just been killed. Interviewed by Army investigators, Palosaari was unable to provide specific dates, locations or the names of any individuals involved in the alleged grenade incident. He admitted that he did not actually witness the mutilation of any enemy dead.

· Donald Pugsley claimed at WSI that a helicopter gunship strafed and killed water buffalo. He admitted to investigators that no water buffalo were actually fired upon.

· Kenneth Ruth claimed at WSI to have witnessed the torture of Vietcong suspects, and told Life Magazine that he saw troops test fire weapons into a village, wounding 43 civilians. However, Ruth admitted to Army investigators that he had no personal knowledge of such an event. The CID found his torture claims unsubstantiated.

· George Smith claimed at WSI that members of his Special Forces unit had beaten enemy prisoners and placed them in small barbed-wire cages. Smith backtracked on these claims when interviewed by Army investigators, saying that the alleged acts were actually committed by South Vietnamese forces rather than American troops.

· David Stark claimed at WSI that hundreds of Vietnamese civilians were killed by indiscriminate bombing and strafing in the Saigon area during late 1968. He also claimed to have witnessed the maltreatment of prisoners. However, Stark told CID interviewers that he actually saw no bodies, was unable to identify the aircraft or military units involved in the attacks or the cleanup operation, and admitted that he had never witnessed maltreatment of prisoners, except for a single occasion when he said he saw a prisoner pushed and shoved by two South Vietnamese officers.
