STOP THE CRIMINALIZATION OF THE AFRICAN COMMUNITY!
NO VIGILANTISM • STOP POLICE BRUTALITY
Launching the Campaign: “10,000 People Against Stop and Frisk!”

What: Press Conference and Demonstration
When: Monday, November 19th 2007 at 12:00 Noon
Where: West side of City Hall, Philadelphia, PA

The Uhuru Solidarity Movement in Philadelphia is calling on all freedom loving people to:
• Join their press conference and demonstration on Monday, November 19th
• Launch a campaign calling for 10,000 people to stand up against the City’s escalating attacks on the African community
• Oppose incoming Mayor Michael Nutter’s Stop and Frisk program
• Support African people’s struggle for justice, reparations & liberation.

Alison Hoehne, Uhuru Solidarity Movement Chairwoman says,
“We are calling for action and for the white community in particular to speak out against the escalation of attacks against the black community in Philadelphia and around the country. We are in a so-called “state of emergency” now because it’s not only African people who are being shot any more.

We believe the real violence, and the real crime is the brutal conditions imposed by the City government on black and Puerto Rican communities including:
• Police murders of 22 people in 2006 alone – no police have been prosecuted
• 50% of black men in Philadelphia are unemployed
• Students in Philadelphia schools were under-funded by $4972 per student in 2006, while Lower Merion students were over-funded by $5146
• Only18% of Philadelphians have college degrees, and up to 50% of those in city jails were unemployed when arrested
• Over 40% of Philadelphians live below the poverty level

Hoehne continued: “ As white residents, we have to understand that the lifestyle we live -- enjoying good jobs and outdoor cafes, sending our children to college, moving into long-standing black communities and taking their homes – is directly at the expense of the terrible poverty, drug economy, police brutality and mass imprisonment imposed on African people!

“ The City government has never lifted a finger to alleviate these colonial conditions. Instead they are calling for more police, more lawlessness with Stop and Frisk, a green light for shoot to kill policies and increased vigilantism. We are calling for the white community to support the African community’s right to organize for REAL SOLUTIONS, including massive economic development, community control and social justice.”

The Uhuru Solidarity Movement is a community-based organization working under the leadership of the African community-led Uhuru Movement. USM organizes white people to stand in solidarity with the African community struggle for self-determination, reparations and liberation.

Stop and Frisk Must go Both Ways

We, the People, select, pay for, and require oaths from public officials to serve us, the people.
Those officials must, FIRST, before others, be required to submit to Stop and Frisk to check their papers and pockets for money from, and evidence of servitude to, PRIVATE interests. To serve private interests over PUBLIC interests would be fraud, and violation of sworn, paid duties.

It is THEY Who must have cameras on them, and submit to searches, not The People.

We are in BackwardsLand if it is otherwise.
