Peace Center of Delaware County First-Friday Free Film Series.
July 2, 7p.m. -
The CAMDEN 28, as part of Independence Day Tribute to Renowned Historian/Peace Activist, Howard Zinn.

July 2, 7 p.m. -  The CAMDEN 28 (2007, NR, 86 mins.), an acclaimed documentary that tells the story of an August 1971 anti-war raid on a military draft board and induction center in Camden, NJ, by peace activists protesting the Vietnam War, will be shown on the large screen at the Peace Center of Delaware County, 1001 Old Sproul Road, in Springfield, Delaware County.

The film, directed by New Jersey native, Anthony Giacchino,  plays out against the backdrop of the turmoil of the Vietnam War era in poverty stricken Camden, New Jersey.  The surprise arrest and the unorthodox trial of the Camden 28 war protesters is a dramatic story of friendship and betrayal, and resistance to war and unjust social priorities.

The CAMDEN 28 is being  shown as part of an Independence Day tribute to Howard Zinn (8/24/22 - 1-27-10), the renowned historian, peace activist, and author of A People's History of the United States, who died earlier this year.  The tribute to Howard Zinn, who is featured in The Camden 28 film, will include music, dramatic readings , and a animated film short of Zinn's A People's History of American Empire, narrated by film star Viggo Mortenson.

The First-Friday free film showings at the Peace Center of Delaware County are co-sponsored by the Brandywine Peace Community. Doors open for light refreshments at 6:30p.m.  The Peace Center of Delaware County is located within the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse, just off the corner of Old Marple and S. Sproul Roads, behind the Mr. Car Wash.
