Innocent Gazan Civilians?
Submitted by Anonymous (no verificado) on Jue, 01/08/2009 - 4:34amInnocent Gazan Civilians? Where?
Innocent Gaza civilians, huh? A three hour ceasefire so that
"innocent Gazan civilians" can go shopping today?
Are Gaza civilians really innocent? Let us bear in mind that the years
of rocket savagery by the Hamas were a direct result of the vast majority
of the residents of the Gaza Strip voting for the Hamas in the elections,
such as they were, that were held there.
The vast majority of Gazans brought the Hamas into power with their
votes. Those same people, and they are the vast majority, are not
innocent. Those who did NOT vote for the Hamas voted for other terrorist
groups, like the various wings of the Fat'h. Basically no one in Gaza
voted against terrorism.
Democracy is not just majority vote decision making but it is also
holding that same majority accountable for how it votes and for the
consequences of their votes. People who vote
for terrorism are legitimate targets for Israeli arms and bombs. And
since virtually all Gazans voted for terrorism, at least those above
voting age did, let's stop all the silly talk about them being "innocent
civilian bystanders."
That is not a call to bomb civilians. It IS a call to ignore the fact
that civilians might get hurt in Gaza when Israel bombs armed terrorists.
German and Japanese civilians got hurt when the Allies bombed Nazi Germany
and Imperialist Japan. Gazan civilians are no more innocent than were
those German and Japanese civilians.
People who do not like it when Gazan civilians get hurt should not support
Palestinian terrorism and savagery and aggression. Israel's official
policy should be:
Hide a Hamas terrorist in your building and die.
Your mentality reveals well why honest and...

Innocent Americans?
Submitted by Anonymous (no verificado) on Jue, 01/08/2009 - 2:02pmBy your twisted logic, every American who voted for Bush is a terrorist and is a legitimate target for Iraqi bombs.
Using F-16s, tanks and helicopter gunships to blow up UN schools and kill women and kids is a great way to ensure future national security.
Red Cross called on Israel to allow it immediate access to Gaza

Red Cross workers and four ambulances from the Palestine Red Crescent Society managed to enter the Zaytun neighborhood of Gaza City on Wednesday, according to a written release. The crew found four children, too weak to stand, next to their dead mothers in a house containing 12 corpses, the statement says.
Other houses revealed more wounded and three more corpses, the release said. It said Israeli soldiers posted near the houses ordered the rescue team to leave the area -- an order the team refused.

As a letter-writer to the Inky pointed out: "I was pleased to be included in Wednesday's article "Hundreds protest attacks on Gaza," but was distressed by the accompanying photo of a poster that equated a Star of David with a swastika. There were no other signs like that one at the rally, and the tone of the rally was not at all anti-Jewish.
"When we saw the sign with the swastika, a few of the Jews present spoke with the man holding it. He was warm, friendly and deeply apologetic. He had no idea that having such a sign would upset Jews. "I'll take it down now," he said, and did. He said he will never use it again.
"This sign was an anomaly. By highlighting it, you created an appearance of extremism and overt anti-Jewish feelings when none existed.
"The picture it paints of the Muslim community is one that perpetuates stereotypes and foments dissension. The situation in Gaza is deeply painful, and I hope all of us can continue to work together to find ways to communicate honestly and work for peace in our communities and in Israel/Palestine."

Submitted by Benjamin (no verificado) on Jue, 01/08/2009 - 12:42pmI just wonder what you guys think Israel's intention is in conducting the invasion of Gaza. Do you think they are blood-thirsty? Why would they be? Have you been to Israel? Are you aware that Israelis just want to live in peace? Did you know that Hamas has lobbed over 5,000 rockets into small, civilian towns in Israel since last May? Did you know that Hamas, despite its ostensible humanitarian activities within the Palestinian territories, has run these territories into the ground? Israel is not only defending itself from countless arbitrary rocket attacks but helping the Palestinian people by destroying Hamas. If your concern is truly the plight of the Palestinian people, you would recognize that they are better off with different leadership, just as Israeli civilians living near Gaza are better off not having missiles fired daily at their homes. Please reconsider your position on this issue based on the facts.

A commenter named Elihu suggests that the elimination of all of the citizens of Gaza is precisely what Israel seeks. No, I don't know how many people Elihu represents, but following his logic, the current war in Gaza will either resemble the ultimately-unsuccessful assault on Hezbollah/Lebanon in 2006 or it will be a "Carthaginian peace," with there being no state left there.
The essential problem that Israel faces is that Israel is a new presence in the Mideast, formed by pushing out people who were living there beforehand. That means that they're very closely surrounded by resentful people. Most Arabs have come to accept that Israel isn't going anywhere and that it's there to stay. The problem then becomes how to settle the people who were there beforehand. I don't have a quick or easy answer for that.
Yes, we are fully aware that Hamas has been violent and we don't see that as acceptable. See the last paragraph.
We're aware that Hamas has been under sanctions and attacks (See the sentence just above this) since gaining power and that those have a great deal to do with Gaza's economic performance. It's difficult to say that Gaza has been mismanaged as they haven't been able to operate without intense economic pressure.
The Palestinian people very strongly support Hamas. Hamas is not some foreign presence in their midst.
Why did Hamas arise in th first place? Didn't they come to be because Palestinians were unhappy under Israeli rule? Sorry, but simply getting rid of Hamas doesn't solve anything.

Submitted by baruch goldstein (no verificado) on Mar, 01/13/2009 - 11:50pmAll Israel asked of Hamas, was that you stop shooting rockets at Israeli cities. But nooooo, you are the tough guy, the big bad Hamas, well after Hezbollah, you said, "Hell no, if Hezbollah won, we can win." Only one problem, Hezbollah didn't win, its just that Israeli politicians were sleeping...sorry...not this time, this is the IDF of '48, '67, '73.....whose the bitch now?
I remember a certain Haniyeh, the P.M. of Hamas, saying Gaza will be an Israeli graveyard...last I heard you were burying people 3 in a grave..hahahahahahahaha.

None the less I can assure you that anti-semitism is on the extreme rise, especially in Europe. I would hope that activists speak out, but am concerned about mobbing, you know that crucible where the unmeltable are eliminated - and the scum rises to the top. That place where emotions take over and logic goes on a walk.
We have all seen the You Tubes if anti Jewish activity and words, the demonization of Israel - or Palestine. Do you believe any of it? Do you really think Palestinian - or Jewish peoples are monolithic in their thinking?
We have to be very careful here, peace means building trust, and that may have to come after this war. There are many emotions tied to this issue, be careful to compartmentalize.
Over the next few weeks diplomatic efforts will produce a truce. During that time we call on all peace activists to reflect on how they personally can disarm their inner nuclear arsenals.
