Efforts to End the Catastrophe Last month marked 62 years since Al-Nakba ensued with the founding of Israel. Palestinians have now entered the 63rd year of displacement, oppression, death and occupation. Thousands of people marched in Palestine on April 21 commemorating the tragedy that began when more than 750,000 people were forced off their land and into refugee camps in Gaza, the West Bank, and neighboring countries, denied forever, if Israel has its way, a right of return. The day passed without notice in the U.S.

If you haven't read it yet, check out the article "Israel's latest population transfer scheme", published in "Foreign Policy" on April 13. It's about the new restrictions on residence in the West Bank, another Israeli tool for gradual ethnic cleansing, which we mentioned in last month's issue. Especially, see the last two paragraphs and the ".docstoc" table at the end of the article, an excellent summary of 2 years of what we talked about in March's issue -- Israel's pattern of effrontery to its so-called "friend", the U.S., its officials and its attempts at peacemaking, feeble and biased as they are.

The "Freedom Flotilla" organized by the Turkish Humanitarian Aid Foundation, the Free Gaza Movement and other organizations starts its epic effort soon. The first ship, named the "MV Rachel Corrie", is set to leave Ireland for Greece mid-May. It will join cargo ships and passenger boats in Turkey and then Cypress before the convoy lifts anchor for Gaza. We wish them safety and success!

Join Philly's protest on May 21!
