event detailsposted by: Progressive Democrats of America begins: Apr 29, 5:30 pm ends: Apr 29, 6:30 pm location: Outside district office of Rep. Chaka Fattah, 4104 Walnut Street |
The Philadelphia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America is organizing a rally, Funding for Philadelphia, Not for War!, to urge our Congressmembers to vote NO on an additional $33 billion for continued war in Afghanistan. We are asking that you attend and invite your friends, neighbors, and members of other activist groups. Funding for Philadelphia, Not for War! Rally Thursday, April 29 5:30 - 6:30 PM Outside the District Office of Rep. Chaka Fattah 4104 Walnut Street (See our Facebook invite: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=110953765607108) In roughly two weeks Congress will vote on yet another war supplemental bill. Will our Philadelphia congessmembers vote for more war at the expense of our schools, our jobs, and more debt for our children and grandchildren? If so, they need to know they are voting against the will of their constituents. Join the Philadelphia Chapter of Progressive Democrats of America outside Rep. Chaka Fattah's district office to say no more endless War on Terror, let Afghans and Iraqis decide their own destiny, and let spend our tax dollars on job creation, poverty prevention, and an alternative energy infrastructure.
Specifically, we are asking our Congressmen for two things:
1. Vote against the war supplemental, even if other legislation (like relief for Haiti) is included in the bill. Congress can vote for these other measures separately.
2. Support and sponsor the Feingold-McGovern-Jones bill calling for a timetable and exit plan from Afghanistan. Read about the legislation here: http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2010/04/14-8 We plan to videotape the rally and present the recording to the offices of both Congressman Chaka Fattah and Congressman Bob Brady before the vote. The rally is co-sponsored by the Philadelphia Chapter of World Can't Wait.
