Hub-City (New Brunswick) & Trenton Anti-Racist Action call to shutdown 1/20 Tucker Max event at TCNJ! No to state funded hate speech against women!

Tucker Max is the author of the shitty book "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell" It has unfortunately sold a considerable number of copies and was recently made into a failed motion picture. Tucker Max also writes for his website and sells his worthless time for speaking engagements like the one taking place tonight at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) on Jan. 20th 2010 at 7.30pm.

Tucker Max's writings, which refer to women as "whores" and "cum dumpsters" and "common stock pigs" are hateful and are a clear contribution towards the oppression of women. Below are just some of the hateful things that Tucker has spoken or written:

  • a “0-star” woman in his “female rating system”: “is generally just so annoying that you have to actively restrain yourself from kicking her in the crotch and stomping on her throat until she drowns on her own blood. There is no insult too mean or crude for her, and basic human rights do not apply to her.”

  • male character statements made towards females in his film: “I will gut you and grind you into pig fodder.” “Get away from me or I’m going to carve a fuck hole in your torso.”“The only way I can cut you deep is with a battle axe and a running start.” “Rape’s not funny, but murder can be.”

  • in a social setting, a “joke” made by Max himself towards women sitting with him at a bar: “I’m trying to get you drunk so you can’t consent to sex anymore,”

Max has been paid thousands of dollars (the total cost figure for the event we had seen was $25,000) of student and taxpayers' funds for his "performance" tonight despite vocal opposition from campus students and faculty and the surrounding community. In spite of the efforts of these individuals and groups who are opposed to Max's violent anti-woman message, The College of New Jersey administration chooses to stand with Tucker Max.

The university has thrown up an old defense and has negated the option to cancel the contract with Max, claiming it a "free speech" issue. This is clearly not a free speech issue as they are using thousands of dollars of student fees and public funds to pay for Tucker Max's hate speech and for the event's logistics. Max is not on a street corner on a soapbox reading his shit writing (sadly, as we would much rather meet him on a street corner ourselves). Tonight he is in fact state sponsored.

His corporate published book, corporate produced film and state sponsored college speaking events are to be opposed by all communities and individuals who want an end to the misogynistic terror which permeates our society.

We call on the college to cancel this event.

We call on all concerned individuals and groups to call the TCNJ college administrators listed below and let them know there is no platform for misogyny at TCNJ and that they should re-allocate $25,000 to either fund womens' self defense classes for students and community members or donate to a local abuse survivor shelter/program for women or do both.

  • TCNJ Board of Trustees 609.771.3397

  • TCNJ office of the president: 609.771.2101, 609.771.2104

Hub-City and Trenton Anti-Racist Action call on all concerned to join us in supporting the campus student opposition at TCNJ's Kendall Hall tonight at 7.30pm and to be a vocal opposition to Tucker Max and the culture of hate and violence towards women which he helps maintain.

Death to sexism! Death to patriarchy!
