I’m glad that for once someone remembered what the Rizzo administration was mad at Mumia about. His in depth reporting of how the Move then back to nature organization was being brutalized by the cops, and prison officials.

FROM THE 2ND PARAGRAPH AFTER THE 1ST PICTURE: “Republican mayor (and former police chief) Frank Rizzo warned Mumia in 1978 that ‘you’re going to have to be held responsible and accountable for his reporting of cop assaults on the predominantly black MOVE organization.” I wish you would post a link to that comment.

The following is a somewhat related link,

Move back then refused to cooperate with the court and prison system. They refused to walk to the paddy wagon and were beaten. When they refused to stand in intake lines or look at the camera for a mug shot they were beaten. There was one incident where the press reported they were beaten up in open court, then everyone in court forced to quickly leave the court room that for Philadelphia residents seemed surreal, until Mumia reported bits of blood, skin and deadlocks on a cold empty courtroom floor. I wish someone would search for that story, and also the one not in the Inquirer archives about the police storming his mother’s high-rise pubic-housing apartment, and in front of her neighbors demanding that she stop her son from reporting anti-police stories.

Instead of demanding a Civil Right’s investigation from Eric Holder, it might be more productive to urge the release of any remaining secret documents from that era and before, Also, at this late date it might be a good idea to hire a private detective.

However, I think your talk about Mumia being executed is premature, unless the climate in the country suddenly leads to executions tripling and quadrupling. Unfortunately the way the word terrorist is being thrown around that might be possible. Suddenly the DC sniper is considered a terrorist and quickly executed. Muslim charities have their assets seized, and Tigre Hill in his new film about Mumia is redefining Mumia as a terrorist. The film isn’t out but the trailer has newspaper headlines from somewhere, “Machine-Gun Fire Hits 2 Police Men”. and “Grenades Rip 12 New Police Cars”. Also it repeats the words “Kill a Pig” and Oink, Oink several times. And claims that Mumia felt a tremendous sense of empowerment by pointing a barrel of a gun at a cop’s head and pulling the trigger. This, as if Mumia doesn’t instead feel empowered by all his writings and now phone speeches support the causes he believes in, both before and after he was convicted of murder,

David Horowitz who stars in the trailer, philosophizing on terrorism, agrees with Pat Robertson that Islam itself is a terrorist organization, not a religion. Bin Laden couldn’t be happier about those in the West who are helping him shove moderate Muslims in al Qaeda’s direction. By the way Hamas, Fatah, Hezbollah, and Iran have strong at times, even violent differences with al Qaeda. US policy often has no idea what it is doing,

All this smearing, and trying to get Muslims banned from the armed services, would have meant possibly one less Army Psychiatrist, but also a lot less Arabic translators, who would still be desperately needed, even if the US would agree to a cease-fire and to leave as soon locals who worked with the Americans would have their safety protected by some Muslim group or get sanctuary elsewhere.
