Greece: The Epicenter of Global Pillage

by Stephen Lendman

Predatory bankers make serial killers look good by comparison. Their business model creates crises to facilitate grand theft, financial terrorism, and debt entrapment.

They steal all material wealth and then some. They systematically rob investors and strip mine economies for self-enrichment.

They demand they get paid first. They hold nations hostage to assure it. They turn crises into catastrophes.

They leave mass impoverishment, high unemployment, neo-serfdom, and human wreckage in their wake.

Their Federal Reserve/ECB/IMF/World Bank/political class lackeys do their bidding.

Big demonstration in solidarity with the arrestees through the main shopping district. The occupations of the university buildings are ending and more actions are planned.

Today's demonstration in solidarity with the arrestees on the past days events was called by anarchists but more people took part or joined in as the protest was going. Around 2000 people participated. The demonstration was powerful but peaceful and it went through the most commercial street of Athens (Ermou), it reached Sintagma square and it returned back where it started using a different route. There was some tension when the protesters were passing outside the Athens Cathedral but since it was decided that this would be a peaceful demonstration, only slogan were written on the building and slogans were shouted against the church and the priests. The riot squads were following but they didn't dare to come close or attack the demonstration.

Police threating of raiding the Polytechnic University, occupants are not backing down. Protests continue.

On Monday there weren't many actions or protests. The rumor that the police may raid the Polytechnic University was strong all day. In Greece police is forbidden by law to enter the grounds of universities and can only do so if the senate gives them permission. A new law however states that the police may enter without the permission if there are felonies committed inside the university. It was said that the police wanted to raid on Saturday night but the academics didn't permit the intrusion. The occupants have decided that they will leave when they decide to and that the police's threats are not scaring them. Today they organized a big solidarity gig inside the university.

Things are usually slow on Sundays and that was the case today. However, many local assemblies took place to decide further actions.

Until early this morning, there were fights around the Polytechnic University in central Athens. Some hundreds of protesters remained in the building all night and made sporadic attacks with rocks and molotov coctails to the riot squads which had surrounded the university. The cops fired tons of teargas, many of which inside university. Strong rumors have been going around that the cops are preparing to raid into the Polytechnic University. There was an assembly of the occupants and solidarists and decided to stand their ground. The occupation remains and they are calling a benefit/solidarity show for Monday.

Wednesday (12/17): reports from Greece
It's more than 10 days since the murder of Alexandros and despite the government's wishes for the protests to stop, they are increasing!

The day started early. At around 5am a bank in Thessaloniki was attacked.
By the first light of day, whoever looked at the Acropolis hill (where the ruins of Parthenon are, the symbol of Athens) knew that the fight is not over. Leftists and students had unfolded a huge banner calling everyone on the big demonstration on Tuesday and with the world Resistance written in many languages. Tuesday (12/16): reports from Greece

The highschool students in Arta, Chania, Koridallo (Athens) demonstrated today. There was also a gathering of students outside the courtrooms in Athens in solidarity with the arrestees.
It was made known today that the ministry of education has started investigations on schools to find and punish teachers that support the students and accompanied them to demonstrations. The students themselves are threatened by some teachers and principals that there will be punishments if they occupy their schools etc, in many cases the threats are personal, against particular students.
