Save the Date!
On Weds. October 19, 2011 you can help Afghan women human rights workers who are targeted for harassment, injury and death.  That night make a reservation and eat at the Kabul restaurant, 106 Chestnut Street.  The owner of the Kabul restaurant, Mr. Wali has generously agreed to donate 20% of his proceeds on that day to The Afghan Women’s Survival Fund through Philly Code PINK.
Simply by going out to eat you can contribute to the survival of Afghan women and empower them in their own struggle for justice!

Philly against War, www.phillyagainstwar.org, is calling for a public demonstration against any increase in troops being sent to Afghanistan. This demonstration will take place during rush hour (4:30 -- 6:00 p.m.) on the day following the president’s announcement of any troop increase (probably Wednesday, December 2).

Let’s pretend that Bill Richardson had been chosen Secretary of State and made the exact same suggestion. Imagine all the angry right-wing comments that would have resulted. When Hillary was first chosen, I felt it was the worst job for her and the country.

Obama trying to get everyone involved suddenly makes sense to me.

Other changes are Obama personally asking to make peace with those elements of the Taliban who are willing to be peaceful.  Again more people would have criticized this if he did not butter up establishment figures by putting them in the cabinet where he could talk them into agreeing with him.  He also offered to stop NATO’s explanation in return for Russian help in stopping Iran’s nuke program. I still fear a downsize to this but that’s for a different posting.
