Several dozen people joined the regular vigil of Bubbies & Zaydes (Grandparents) for Peace in the Middle East today, to express their horror at Israel's continuing air strikes on civilians in Gaza.
The vigil, which has taken place every Friday outside the former headquarters of the Israeli Consulate for about 8 years, drew both actual and aspiring grandparents from as far away as Doylestown and New Jersey. A counter-protest was out as usual about a block down. Participants distributed flyers to passerbys calling for "an immediate end to attacks on all civilians, both Palestinian and Israeli", gathered signatures for a petition from the US Campaign to End the Occupation and passed out copies of a letter from the "Patriarchs and Heads of the Churches in Jerusalem" condemning the attacks. The group closed with prayer and the breaking of bread.
