The NY Times announced 1000 US death in Afghan War May 18. On May 19, stating page A 12 is the names and faces of the dead.

Philadelphia and Delaware Valley peace groups held protests and solemn ceremonies February 14, defining who died in the Afghan war somewhat differently. Neither list include only those actually on the ground in Afghanistan directly killed by enemy fire or mines.

The Taliban is on a new offensive, which at first glance contrasts with Afghan President Karzai’s planned giant peace conference. However, the drone war and the attacks in Pakistan are heating up which the Taliban has to note, which are in contrast to Karzai’s oral comments toward peace.
Wesdnesday’s Daily News marked the announcement of 1000 deaths with an editorial by Attywood, “The real loser in the Pa. Senate primaries was peace”.

If any peace events relate to the NY Times interpretation, I hope someone posts details here.
