Terrorism

The recently-concluded fight over the deficit reminds me of a recent movie about a terrorist.
Well, having just finished watched the movie "The Taking of Pelham 1 2 3," I feel it goes pretty well with the drama that was just more-or-less concluded in Washington DC. As in Pelham, this was a hostage crisis, with Republicans threatening the good name and credit rating of the United States. As The Philadelphia Inquirer made clear, the whole episode has left US creditors and allies very troubled.

DR. MARIO Miclat’s “Secrets of the Eighteen Mansions: A Novel” (Manila: Anvil Publishing, 2010) reveals in rich detail many of the covert factors that contributed to the growth of one of our country’s biggest problems: the Communist Party of the Philippines.
The “18 mansions” are the buildings in a secret compound in Beijing where the Chinese Communist Party in the 1960s and 1970s housed delegations of communist parties all over the world to facilitate its clandestine aid to their own insurgencies.

In September, a far right party with a neo-Nazi past entered Sweden's parliament, and on 11 December the country had its first suicide bombing. With such extremism surfacing, one can literally feel 'a tension' in daily life, people trying to sort out the haunting question of 'where do we go from here'.
Municipal corruption scandals began making Sweden's news in April; in September the far right Swedish Democrats (SD) - where prior to 2001, swastikas and Nazi uniforms could be seen at their meetings - were elected to Parliament; in October, police announced that an unknown gunman had been randomly gunning down immigrants in Southern Sweden's SD stronghold of Malmö; and, on 11 December Sweden had its first ever suicide bombing, the attacker being an immigrant who grew up in the small Southern Swedish town of Tranås.

Krauthammer laments the loss of the "War on Terror." It's hard to see why there's anything to really miss about it.
Further analyses from Lefarkin and Yglesias.
It's difficult to add much to this post on Charles Krauthammer's Weekly Standard piece on why President Obama is allegedly hastening America's decline, but I'll make a few extra comments anyway.

Watch out, God is a terrorist bastard.
In the time of Moses, Egypt was a dictatorship ruled by an absolute ruler: The Pharaoh. Over the course of time, before the time of Moses, many tribes had been drawn to Egypt. It was a thriving Kingdom. Like the Egyptians themselves, many of those who came to settle in Egypt became slaves. Slave or not, all were subject to the Pharaoh. It was the Pharaoh who made the laws.
