Political Prisoners and Prisoners of War
Each year we gather together to make Valentines for US political prisoners. This is a great way to celebrate Valentines Day- sending love to folks who've been in prison for years due to their political involvement. We need to make sure they know we haven't forgotten them! Folks we send cards to are from the Black panthers, Black liberation movement, MOVE, Puerto Rican independence movement, eco-activists, and other anti-imperialist activists. Bring some art supplies if you have them, but remember we can't use stickers and glitter due to prison regulations. Sometimes even cards with glue are returned. There will also be supplies provided.

The Supreme Court has tossed out a lower court ruling which had stated that if the Philly DA wants to execute Mumia, then Mumia must first have a new penalty hearing. The case is now in front of the 3rd Circuit Court, with the DA seeking Mumia's execution without a sentencing hearing. In Philadelphia, demonstrate Wednesday, Jan 20 at 4pm at the SE corner of City Hall (Juniper St). Monitor freemumia.com and abu-jamal-news.com for updates.

In which I assess the President's policies in various areas. I think with this description of the detention powers that the Obama Administration claims it has, I can definitely say that, as an Obama supporter, I'm definitely of the "Cafeteria Catholic" variety.

At this meeting we will be planning a local campaign to support the San Francisco 8 including several showings of the film Legacy of Torture. The preliminary hearings for the SF 8 are coming up this June 11th and the SF8 need as much support as possible!

Join danielle west of Coast2Coast Solidarity- Philly and co-hosts (who are to be announced possibly including ICFFMAJ, HRC, Fight For Lifers, NCOBRA, NALF, STOPMAX ). We will discuss case updates and watch the short movie, Legacy of Torture, in oder to raise awareness about who the San Francisco 8 are and the impact of repression on our movements today. This is a showing as part of a video blitz in response to the start of the pretrial of the case on June 8th.
