As the current crisis of capitalism threatens the break-down all that is left that is civil in our society, the Democrats charge ahead with the Republicans in making sure it is the poor, the working class, and the planet, who pay for the crisis of capitalism, not capitalist profits. The alternative to socialist revolution becomes increasingly clear as capitalist society becomes less and less able to take care of its people; climate change caused by capitalist greed becomes an increasing threat to the future of human civilization; the capitalist state becomes increasingly repressive; and the leading capitalist countries plunge the world into war after war of imperialist domination and conquest. As the great German revolutionary Rosa Luxemburg said in 1918, the alternatives are socialism or barbarism.

The following statement of purpose was approved by the now forming Revolutionary Tendency of the Socialist Party (RT-SP) Jan. 7, 2012.

Manila, Philippines - Thousands of workers led by the Alliance of Progressive Labor (APL) and its allied organizations converged in key cities on Labor Day to reiterate their demand for better wages, improved economy, jobs, security of tenure for workers and an end to demolition of squatter shanties.

Edwin Bustillos, APL deputy secretary-general, said almost one year after the victory of President Aquino, workers have yet to see tangible gains.

“Instead, what we have is a disastrous decision for the workers of PAL, violent demolitions of informal settlers and skyrocketing prices of oil, food and other prime commodities,” he said.

Workers are being presented a Philippine Development Plan (PDP) for 2011- 2016 that merely provides a slightly updated version of the same old neo-liberal prescriptions, Bustillos said.

The APL mobilized in Manila, Lipa, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Cotabato and Cagayan de Oro.

A successful ‘socialism conference’ was held in Manila from November 27 to 28. The conference was organized by the socialist Partido Lakas ng Masa or Party of the Labouring Masses (PLM) and the socialist-feminist regional network Transform Asia. The conference was attended by 100 delegates, leaders of the PLM from Metro Manila, and other leading socialists of the Philippine left, as well as 13 international guests.

The international organisations represented came from the Malaysian Socialist Party (PSM); People’s Democratic Party (PRD-Indonesia); Working People’s Association (PRP-Indonesia); Political Committee of the Poor-People’s Democratic Party (KPRM-PRD-Indonesia); Socialist Alliance (Australia); The Left Party (Sweden); the General Confederation of Nepalese Trade Unions (Gefont); the Vietnamese Union of Friendship Organisations; and the Centre for Environment and Community Asset Development (Vietnam). Keynote speakers at the conference included the newly appointed Cuban Ambassador to the Philippines Juan Corrales. Greetings were also given by the representative of the Venezuelan embassy, Charge d’affaires Manuel Iturbe.

A military parade marks the 65th anniversary of the ruling Worker's Party and honors the successor to Kim Jong Il.

Reporting from Pyongyang, North Korea — North Korean leader Kim Jong Il presided over a military parade Sunday alongside his youngest son and eventual successor in a massive coming out party for the newly anointed and still-mysterious young heir.

Kim Jong Eun, believed to be 27, stood near his ailing father on a long rostrum overlooking tens of the thousands of civilian performers and goose-stepping troops in a special celebration broadcast on state television. Until last month, when he was promoted to four-star general at a special meeting of the ruling Workers' Party, Kim Jong Eun had never appeared by name or face in the North Korean press.

From July 10 – 14, black freedom fighters and our allies from all over the world will converge on Washington, D.C. in one of the most important meetings in this era of struggle. The official convening of the 5th Congress of the African People’s Socialist Party will set a black agenda that is separate and independent from Barack Obama’s Democratic Party, and Michael Steele’s Republican Party.

So many of our people were led to believe and actually thought that the election of Barack Hussein Obama as U.S. president would mean a better life for us. But the fact is that conditions of existence for black people have worsened.

The police are still shooting and beating us in the streets and in our homes, to which the police murder of 23-year-old Trey Joyner only blocks away from the White People’s House where Obama resides bears witness, as does the nation-wide broadcast of a white cop in Seattle, Washington assaulting two black teenage girls in broad day light while the cameras of cell phones rolled; and of course the murder of our baby, 7-year-old Aiyana Jones in Detroit, where the police burst in throwing hand grenades and firing weapons of mass destruction.

The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) says that all comrades are equal, and cadres fulfill division of tasks within the organization. All are subject to Party policies under the principle of the individual is subordinate to the organization, the lower organ is subordinate to the higher organ, and the whole Party is under the Central Committee.

A young cadre, however, begs to vociferously disagree that every cadre, high or low, is subject to Party discipline.

Many Party members have been meted disciplinary actions for sexual opportunism. But as the article below contends, some top-ranking officials, especially founding CPP chairman Amado Guerrero aka Prof. Jose Maria Sison, are allowed to flout the policy on the relationship of the sexes. A few are more equal than the rest, to paraphrase George Orwell in his "Animal Farm."
