Contrary to what so many politicians today believe, non-performance is not so easily smoothed over. In fact it costs them much more in campaign dollars in trying to make seem alright than it would were they to just perform. If they did the work, if they simply came through on their promises when given, they wouldn't have to spend so much trying to come up with something – anything - to embellish their records in front of the public. We would know. They would not have to worry and fret about whether or not their lies are working. They would be out touting their record – a record no one could deny, because when they previously promised they would do such and such if elected, they could prove they in fact did.
This election season we are sure to hear each of the sides lie about the other. We already are to an extent, but since we are not out of the primaries we are still hearing people taking shots at each other from within party’s boundaries. That's expected, but soon enough presidential candidates will be sniping at each other and the nation will be weighing which side did more for the American public.

Vast wealth for those at the top, unemployment and poverty for the rest of society
One can never have too much money. In the U.S., the top one percent of the population rakes in almost a quarter of the national income and enjoys 40 percent of the wealth. That class sees this as a problem. It is not enough. For ordinary workers, the recession brought only economic hardship. But for corporate America, it meant one thing: opportunity. This is the chance to permanently mold the economy into something approximating the Third World model: vast wealth and privilege for those at the top, and unemployment, falling wages, and inadequate or nonexistent social services for the rest of society.

COMMUNIST MANIFESTO: A PLATYPUS TEACH-IN
In the mid-19th century, Marx and Engels famously observed in the Communist Manifesto that a 'specter' was haunting Europe—the specter of Communism. 160 years later, it is 'Marxism' itself that haunts us.

My apologies to T. S. Eliot, but September, not April, is the cruelest month. Before 9/11/2001, there was 9/11/1973, when Gen. Pinochet toppled the Allende government in Chile and ushered in a 17-year reign of terror. More recently, on 9/15/2008, Lehman Brothers went bust and torpedoed the global economy, turning what had been a Wall Street crisis into a near-death experience for the global financial system.
Two years later, the global economy remains very fragile. The signs of recovery that desperate policymakers claimed to have detected late in 2009 and early this year have proven to be mirages. In Europe, four million people are unemployed and the austerity programs imposed on highly indebted countries such as Greece, Spain, Italy, and Ireland will add hundreds of thousands more to the dole. Germany is an exception to the dismal rule.

Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) | 07.28.2010
MANILA - The new administration of President Benigno S. Aquino III begins with an extremely high trust rating of 88 percent – higher than any of the post-dictatorship presidents. This is a measure of people’s belief in the commitment of the Aquino administration to reverse the anti-poor policies implemented during the regime of Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo.
We in the Freedom from Debt Coalition (FDC) submitted to the President an Agenda outlining demands for changes in the debt and public finance policy, the power industry, the water sector, and government’s stance on climate negotiations and responses to climate crisis. This is in the context of a looming fiscal crisis due to the record-breaking deficit and empty public coffers left by the Arroyo administration, electricity prices soaring past major Asian cities save Tokyo, a water crisis that is pushing Filipinos to desperate extremes, and a looming La Niña that might bring us another devastating Ondoy.

THERE IS A REASON to celebrate the inauguration of President Benigno ‘Noynoy’ Aquino -- we have finally dumped the most corrupt and most hated regime since the fall of the Marcos dictatorship in 1986. GMA didn't deserve the President's farewell granted her. She should have been ousted years ago. Nevertheless, Aquino’s victory rightfully belongs to the Filipino people who voted against Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo and her minions.
But there is also reason to be concerned. A day before the inauguration, President Noynoy selected his Cabinet team. Most of those tasked to run the economic affairs of the country are former Cabinet members who have been known to implement neo-liberal policies proven detrimental to our people, such as Cesar Purisima of Department of Finance, who donated P10 million to Noynoy’s campaign. Other appointees came from the camps of Senator Mar Roxas, the Hyatt 10, and Noynoy’s close friends and political allies. Not a single one comes from the people’s organizations and the progressive movement, although a number of them supported him; this is unlike the Cory’s administration which brought in progressives into the government in her
