Up to 20,000 unemployed Pennsylvanians will be hired using federal stimulus funds. Job slots will be in non-profit, public sector, or private sector jobs and all wages will be paid by the state of Pennsylvania.
Mr. Rice, this is a reply to your note sent to the Philly Parent Partner email list and others.
Bob Shipman here, I will be attending the summit. I have sent a RSVP to the EPIC leader of the Wm Penn Stakeholder group. The Epic Division of Community Based Prevention Service process has always been a service dear to my heart and has enhanced my work, my career, my community and ultimately my life. As a few of you may know I am a long time south Philadelphia EPIC member under the leadership of Glenn Wrighten. As such I had the opportunity to serve in the leadership of role of one of the EPIC groups.
The trainings held for the EPIC leadership and FLI (family leadership institute) members has moved the grassroots organizations and individuals to a level of activism in my experience that we have had in the city of Philadelphia, since the 1960's ala Cecil B. Moore and others from that era.
As such attending this summit is a must for me an other people that are aware of the date. We also have discussed the power the the EPIC community holds has become a threat to the powers to be. Those powers that has targeted Philadelphia from the top down, the foreign developers from as far away as China and as close as New York City.
On any given day one can see a bus load of investors touring the inner city. Although we welcome the groups of investors we acknowledge that the culture of Philadelphia will not be lost if the grassroots have a say.
This vanguard is capable of reinstating the strong communities that has made Philadelphia a member of the seventh wonders of the world. We all know that the many challenges we face in this city will be continued to be chiseled away at. We have members of the leadership in Philadelphia such as our school district of Philadelphia , Dr Ackerman.
We at the Institute for the Study of Civic Values endorse the summit and we will continue to support the important work of the EPIC members organizations. We ask the entire community and those that are receiving this note to attend and pass the word about this important 2 hour summit, get there early and be ready to contribute.
There is one more very important note, the President Obama Recovery Act, Stimulus jobs package is here, NOW, Jobs for 20,000 unemployed Parents and youth! This package is slipping by many of us. Last Sunday paper acknowledged the fact that the state of Pennsylvania has the funds and we need to get the word out!

(Putting together the program quickly represents a managerial challenge, said Sallie Glickman, who heads Philadelphia's Workforce Investment Board. The easiest way might be a bulk placement, she said. The stimulus money can be used for basic assistance, short-term emergency needs, and subsidized job programs such as the one Pennsylvania is setting up. Pennsylvania is eligible for $359.7 million in TANF emergency funds and has drawn $29 million of the sum for basic assistance and short-term uses.) www.philly.com/philly/bus...636627.html
