Iraq War Veterans Arrested While Attempting to Deliver Questions to Obama and McCain
HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – One hour before the final presidential debate of the 2008 campaign, fourteen members of Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) marched in formation to Hofstra University to present questions to the candidates. IVAW had requested permission from debate moderator Bob Schieffer to ask their questions during the debate, but received no response.
The contingent of veterans in dress and combat uniforms attempted to enter the building where the debate was to be held in order to ask questions about poor veterans' healthcare and supporting war resisters of the candidates, but were turned back by police. IVAW members at the front of the formation were immediately arrested, and others were pushed back into the crowd by police on horseback. Several members were injured, including former Army Sergeant Nick Morgan who suffered a broken cheekbone when he was trampled by police horses before being arrested.
"Neither of the candidates has shown real support for service members and veterans. We came here to try and have serious questions answered, questions that we as veterans of the Iraq war have a right to ask, but instead we were arrested. We will continue to ask these questions no matter who is elected. We believe that the time has come to end this war and bring our troops home, and we will be pushing for that no matter what happens in this election." said Jason Lemieux, a former Sergeant in the US Marine Corps who served three tours in Iraq, and member of IVAW.
A total of ten veterans were arrested during the action, including Matthis Chiroux (Army Sergeant), Kristofer Goldsmith (Army Sergeant), Adam Kokesh (Marine Sergeant), Mike Spinato, Geoff Millard (Army Sergeant), Marlisa Grogan (Marine Captain), Nathan Peld (Navy, 1998-2004), Nick Morgan (Army Sergeant), James Gilligan (Marine Corps, 6 years) and Jose Vasquez (Army & Army Reserves, 1992-2007).
###
Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) was founded in July of 2004 to allow servicemen and women from all branches of the military a chance to come together and speak out against an illegal, unjust and unwinnable occupation. IVAW currently has over 1,300 members in 49 states, Canada and on military bases in the United States and overseas. To learn more about IVAW you can visit our website at www.ivaw.org.

Definitive YOU TUBE of HOFSTRA Police Riot vs IRAQ VETS
Submitted by Rich Gardner on Tue, 10/21/2008 - 4:56pmhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oRAKItO7NY
Sisters & Brothers,
I'm a slow analog dude from the last millennium, and I'm sure that this YOU TUBE is the LAST of 15 or so, at the Hofstra Debate. (posted 10/21)
HOWEVER:
My 187 "stills" of the Hofstra Police Riot have gotten world wide coverage, and I was also shooting some video at the same time. I don't know much more about a video camera than "On" & "Off", but this YOU TUBE Video is important for the 1,300 Iraq Veterans Against the War who were unable to come to the Long Island Prez Debate to help ask TWO QUESTIONS to the candidates, from ALL our Iraq Veterans who risked their lives in OIF.
Most of the other existing YOU TUBE footage is a lotta screaming & yelling, without much context.
THIS YOU TUBE demonstrates the espirit de corps, the LOVE, the respect, and the Honor that IRAQ VETERANS AGAINST The WAR have, and demonstrate for each other, and especially demonstrate for ALL Active Duty and VETS who have been suckered into the GWOT (Global War On Terrorism), then used, abused, and discarded like a condom, by DoD.
The Brother who nearly got his brains knocked out (Nick Morgan) is shown numerous times PRIOR to the BEAT DOWN, peaceably standing @ "Parade Rest", with his hands behind his back... He's wearing BDU's with the Gold patch & Horse Head of the fabled 1st Cavalry Division.
There is graphic "footage" of him bleeding @ 5:40 thru 5:56, of the http://www.YouTube.com and a lot of the "stills" INSIDE the 55 photo AOL "SlideShow", at the bottom of this e-mail.
Excellent text from Mathis Chiroux, Kristopher Goldsmith, Jabbar Macgruder, Liam Madden, and many others can be Googled.
"Cadence Calls" during the March are Sgt Geoff Millard
PLEASE heed the words of wisdom by Marine Sergeant Liam Madden, in the FINAL MINUTE. These are words we should ALL live by !

I was personally responsible for providing to my command, daily reports entitled 'Sewage-Water-Electric-Trash (SWET) Reports', so I have expertise in the field of Sadr City's Public Works throughout 2005. Under orders, I personally photographed and reported to my command, hundreds of times between February and August 2005, on the lack of adequate clean water, the never-ending presence of trash and sewage throughout the streets, and the very limited few hours of electrical power provided to areas within my unit's area of operation within Sadr City. Each platoon within 3-15 IN was responsible for the same daily SWET reports which were submitted to 3-15 IN Headquarters and ostensibly handed up as intelligence information to higher levels within the Army. We, the Soldiers on the ground, representing the good word of America, forwarded promises from our command to the people of Sadr City, saying that as long as peace was maintained with the Mahdi Militia, we would work to improve their daily lives. These promises, were futile at best, as we provided only occasional humanitarian aid.

Submitted by assignment writing (not verified) on Wed, 02/04/2009 - 10:20amFor the plenty of people who still think we're at war in Iraq to "keep us safe and free from the terrorists" and that we need to stay there until it's "won," we need former soldiers like Adam Kokesh *Who*Has*Been*There* to set them straight.
There's a better chance they would have respect for a soldier who has actually been to this war and is a passionate and articulate speaker.

Human life and sufferings
Submitted by David (not verified) on Mon, 02/23/2009 - 7:39amHuman life and sufferings hold no value in war zones, its painful to even see it let alone feeling it. Its almost like a civil war out there. Democracy can only survive in peace. First there has to be peace.
