McCain Attacks Wall Street Greed—While 83 Wall Street Lobbyists Work for His Campaign

by

[Looking at the word "bail out," I find several definitions, all of them apt to today's swamped economy:]

-To remove (water) from a sinking boat by repeatedly filling a container and emptying it over the side.
[So the taxpayer money, buying up debt and dumping it over the side of the boat is supposed to keep our sinking economy afloat?]
-To grant or obtain the liberty of (a person under arrest) on security given for his or her appearance when required, as in court for trial.
[But if it's public money standing as a security bond, who's going to guarantee that these fat cats stand trial?]
-To make a parachute jump from an airplane.
[Yes, that would be what investors are doing now: cutting losses and selling everything off now.]
-To give up on or abandon something, as to evade a responsibility: "His partner bailed out before the business failed."
[That's what these CEOs are doing.]
-To waylay or rob (someone)
[That's what's happening to the US taxpayers]
-To confine a cow for milking, as in a bail
[That's what's happening to us taxpayers too]

[And I like this definition best of all:]
-bails: (Obsolete) the wall of an outer court of a feudal castle
[All that "free market" nonsense was just until the going got tough -- then we show the kind of economy we _really_ are: "Resistance is feudal!"]

"In the past few days, as the economic crisis has deepened, Senator John McCain has been decrying the excesses of Wall Street. At a campaign rally in Tampa on Tuesday, he vowed that he and Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, if elected, 'are going to put an end to the reckless conduct, corruption, and unbridled greed that have caused a crisis on Wall Street.' He noted that the 'foundation of our economy...has been put at risk by the greed and mismanagement of Wall Street and Washington.'

[...]

"McCain has been quick with fiery, populist-tinged speeches. But one thing has been missing: any acknowledgment that McCain's own campaign has been loaded with the type of people he's been denouncing. (The McCain campaign did not respond to a request for comment; we will update the post if they do.) As Mother Jones previously reported, former Senator Phil Gramm, McCain's onetime campaign chairman, used a backroom maneuver in late 2000 to slip into law a bill that kept credit default swaps unregulated. These financial instruments greased the way to the subprime meltdown that has led to today's economic crisis. Several of McCain's most senior campaign aides have lobbied for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. And the Democratic National Committee, using publicly available records, has identified 177 lobbyists working for the McCain campaign as either aides, policy advisers, or fundraisers.

"Of those 177 lobbyists, according to a Mother Jones review of Senate and House records, at least 83 have in recent years lobbied for the financial industry McCain now attacks."

Obama and the payday loan issue

David Kernell is the 20-year-old son of Tennessee’s Democratic Representative Mike Kernell, and David got caught red-handed. Based on the CNN account “Democratic lawmaker's son indicted in Palin hacking,” David reset the password of GOP vice presidential hopeful Sarah Palin’s personal e-mail account. David allegedly read the contents, took screenshots, and got a hold of other private information. Some of the information believed to be compromised includes Palin’s address book, photos of family and friends, contact phone numbers, and family birthdates among other things. Ironically, although David Kernell turned himself in, he pled not guilty. Why would he plead not guilty after he took the information he hacked from Palin’s personal account and posted it to a public website? Not only did David post Palin’s personal information to the public site, but he posted the new password he created, which made it possible for others to access and view Palin’s e-mail account. As a consequence, David Kernell could serve five years in jail, pay a $250,000 fine, and be subject to three years of supervised release. At the maximum of $1,500 per loan, that fine would require approximately 167 individual payday loans to free himself from the confines of prison

Expenses for Something...

With just less than one week left until we find out who will be our Commander in Chief for the next four years, there are new controversies surrounding both the Democrat and Republican camps. News sources are excited to report that the Republican National Committee spent upwards of $150,000 on new clothes for Vice Presidential Candidate Sarah Palin. While this story has been circulating, inspiring an avalanche of negative publicity, anti-Republican attacks, and the like, I am not rolling with this tide. As a matter of fact, considering that both Palin and Democratic Presidential hopeful Barack Obama have spent large sums of money on clothing, it doesn’t make me disrespect or respect one more than the other. After all, we live in a society where looks, more than anything else, are the prime things that we judge people on. If you have one candidate in designer duds, but somebody else who looks as if they’ve gotten their entire wardrobe from the Wal-Mart clearance rack, the latter won’t be taken seriously. And, besides, look at the attention Sarah Palin is getting with her wardrobe. It doesn't seem like such a bad political move. They spent a lot less on Sarah's wardrobe than Obama spends on TV commercials. In the end, I really hope that the American people will judge the candidates on the issues, and vote for the candidate that supports Americans' right to freedom for personal financial responsibility and the continued rights to no fax payday loans.

First off...

This is not a commercial site and we don't sell anything here. We request that you not advertise the fact that you work for the "Personal Money Store" while making political comments. We see any more of that sort of advertising and your comments will be deleted.

I don't know of any "large sums of money" that the Obamas have been spending on their clothing. In fact, Michelle Obama's dress that she wore on "The View" was purchased for a little less than $150. I took a look at the JCPenney website and their dresses and pantsuits typically go for $60 to $120, so that's not really an extravagant sum to spend. Jane Hamsher of firedoglake.com used to be a movie producer and claims to have funded the clothing for entire movies on much less than $150,000.
I agree that the issue of how much governor Palin spends on wardrobe is a less-than-critical issue, but it does damage her claims to be a reformer.

Who vote Wisely???

Guys, listen up! Did you think about the issues before you voted? I hope that most of you did, but who knows? Some of us think more about whether or not to take out a payday advance. Case in point: listen to this audio clip, from a recent episode of the “Howard Stern Show”. (It was posted by BPM DJ’s of Pittsburgh.) Roving Reporter Sal went out getting opinions of people on the street, to see whether they supported Obama or McCain for President, and whether they were voting for Obama on the basis of race, or just because he’s black. Sal got his samples from Harlem, in New York City. The trick here was that he reverses the candidates' positions (he states Obama as having the platform of McCain, and vice versa) – and he gets people to admit they want the positions of McCain but they're voting for Obama, or, quite frankly, they don't know what they want. And you know, he points out the fact that many of us basically jump on the bandwagon, and go with whatever most people are saying.
