KWRU Hosts a Reality Tour for Candidates and Media

In the summer of 2000, the Kensington Welfare Rights Union gave journalists “Reality Tours” of their neighborhood, devastated by poverty in the heart of Philadelphia, as the Republican National Convention ignored the plight of poor Americans nationwide. KWRU’s efforts, including a huge unpermitted march through Center City to the convention site, became a major story of resistance to that oppression.

As the Democratic candidates continue to ignore the issue of poverty, leaders of KWRU will offer another tour of Kensington for the media on Friday, April 18th at 10 AM, beginning at its office at 2825 N. 5th St. in North Philadelphia.

Eight years of the Bush Administration and the Democrats’ spineless compliance is clearly reflected in changes to our area: even more deterioration, fewer jobs, more crime, and much more death, as Clinton and Obama scour the state for middle-class votes. Neither one has any plans to visit Kensington before April 22nd, because they’ve decided our votes and our problems don’t matter.

We hope you can join us on Friday morning, April 18th 10am 2825 N 5th St. to help us remind the world that economic human rights are being violated and residents here are dying every day, while the politicians sell themselves to the voters and do nothing. Please Tim 347-581-5483 or  Galen 215-870-4718 with any questions and for reservations.
