Apr 4 - MLK Jr. Memorial March!
Philadelphia Jobs with Justice | 04.03.2006
On April 4, 2006, 12 noon at 12th & Cecil B. Moore Ave. March in Recognition of MLK
April 4, 1968 Martin Luther King Jr. was assassinated while in Memphis, TN. In Memphis, King had taken some time away from his Poor Peoples Campaign to stand in solidarity with AFSCME workers who were on strike. Before he was brutally slain, King had been spreading as message that workers' rights, civil rights and non-violent direct action organizing are the way to justice and equality.
On April 4, 2006, 12 noon on the NW corner of 12th St. and Cecil B. Moore Ave. the Student Labor Action Project, student, community, worker and faith allies will march in recognition of the great legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The march will also launch a campaign by SLAP to demand that Temple University create a Global Sullivan Principle Enforcement Committee (GSPEC). The Global Sullivan Principles are being ignored for much of Temple University's workers, subcontractors and licensees. With the promises to living wages and freedom to associate and organize being, broken every day at Temple University, the time has come for human rights activists to intervene.
Come out and support the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr., the Global Sullivan Principles and the creation of the SLAP lead Global Sullivan Principles Enforcement Committee (GSPEC)!
