National Lawyers Guild has an election list to help note progressive judges

by

There is nothing more awkward then someone handing you a list of people to vote for without telling why. Finally there is a way to find out what is really going on.

The National Lawyers Guild now lists their member’s opinions on judicial candidates, Open with Abode Reader

The National Lawyer’s guild list has detailed information on each candidate.  Most of us don’t want to support Seth Williams only because someone we know does, or strongly oppose Dan McCaffery without knowing someone hurt by him.

And many of us don’t like the idea of pushing a lot of other numbers without knowing much or anything about why we should do so.

Here is how the National Lawyers Guild can make a difference.  Philly for Change recommends Angeles Roca #21.  Philadelphia Neighborhood Network recommends Sharon Williams Losier Lever $ 27.  Neither list has the maximum seven names on it.

This is what the National Lawyers Guild members said about Angeles Roca, 14.3% highly recommended, 17.9% recommended, 3.6% opposed 64.3 had no opinion.  Plus there were three comments. “very good caring individual motivated to do her best; we need good Hispanic role models, community oriented.”  “I have been opposed counsel with Judge Roca many times.  She has always been reasonable, ethical, and fair.  She is knowledgeable and fair.” “Need more time to get ‘seasoned’ as a judge doing an excellent job in family court so far - fair, smart, respectful.”

Even if someone is not impressed with the National Lawyers Guild, they know a lot about Judge Roca by reading their material.  Let’s spread the word that no one needs to leave most of their ballot blank because they have no idea what to do.

This is what the National Lawyers Guild has to say about Sharon Williams Losier #27, 7.7% highly recommend, 7.7 recommend, 11.5 % strongly oppose 73.1% had no opinion.  The comments were “competent, heart in the right place and good human values”.   Very politically connected; interested in civil rights; history of serving on ACLU board nevertheless average intellect to be a judge.  Incoherent in presenting ideas, often out of tough with gist of discussion or arguments” “Really doesn’t understand the law.  Nice person, but just not smart enough to be a judge.  Doesn’t have really good instincts either.”  “On ACLU Legal Comm.”  “Worked with her on election stuff - a good soul concerned with getting it right and having every voice count”

Since voters could vote for nine Common Peas Judges they don’t have to choose between Neighborhood Network and Philly for Change.

However It’s important from the above controversy to note that the National Lawyers Guild doesn’t hide from argument, and if there really was  something wrong with Seth Willams like candidate Dan McCaffery claims, there would be inconsistency in the National Layers Guild discussion instead of quite a bit of praise.

For NOW, ADA and Liberty City (LGBT), check spreadsheets link in the first paragraph above.

I have some questions for DA candidate Dan McCaffery.  If gun law violators need to stay in jail for as long as possible, then who will pay for their incarceration?  If a woman is forced by her boyfriend to buy a gun and give it to him if she wants bread and milk for her babies, is it really best for her children to spend the rest of their youth in foster care while their mother serves behind bars?  If some members of the Carpenters or Building Trade Unions gets in a fight with scabs and the bosses will the DA even find the union members in the wrong.

I remember the fear during the Rizzo years and before the Democratic sweep in 2006.  I hope the rest of us remember it too, and please everyone urge our friends to realize that this is an important election.

Correction follows:

The above comment was mistaken because Neighborhood Networks ended up with a full slate.
So whether to vote for Sharon Williams Losier who is a good person whether or not she is a good judge isn’t choosing between Neighborhood Network and Philly for Change.

It might not have been a good idea for me to have highlighted nick picking over small differences in slates. But it did highlight that there is no legitimate gossip over Seth Williams credentials.

It’s a shame that Neighborhood Networks and Philly for Change are both ignoring Superior and Commonwealth Court. See National Lawyers Guild link above.

Election insight that was easy to miss in the following link,

Sorry that I was looking at an early Neighborhood Network list. I shouldn’t have missed what was clearly in the spread sheet.
