Does it matter if the American President is popular abroad? The Iranian election today will be a good test case.
Liz Cheney suggests that for our President to present himself to the Arab world as a decent guy who isn’t determined to blast them all into a pile of radioactive rubble
is a waste of time and basically questions his masculinity for wanting to make such a presentation.
Well, gee, it seems that the
Iranian blogosphere disagrees with that assessment. Iranians are apparently quit impressed with Obama. Obviously, he gets his highest marks from the Reformist/Secular corner of the Iranian blogosphere, but Obama’s name crops up quite a bit in the Conservative and ”CyberShi’a” and even the ”Parsiblog” sectors. The “Poets” are about the only group that just doesn’t care.
In a piece posted at
7:24 EST, the opposition party led by
Mirhossein Mousavi appeared to be ahead. Things don’t look all that good for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, though a chart shows that Mousavi is gaining while Ahmadineja is falling, the trend lines still look pretty far apart.

Submitted by Rich Gardner on Fri, 06/12/2009 - 4:03pmThe neocons are getting all "It doesn't matter" about the Iranian election. That indicates a belief that the current president will lost and that the new Iran will be much more difficult to demonize.
Result is far from clear. Both sides are claiming victory.
