Medical Personnel Report Fear Delivering Services to Persecuted Muslim Minority Group in Myanmar
Despite recent advancements in democratic development in Myanmar, ethnic persecution has resulted in the deaths and dislocation of Rohingyas, a Muslim minority group in the state of Rakhine. The violence has led to the murder of dozens of people and the dislocation of others into nearby Bangladesh. Several people have drowned attempting to cross the border by swimming across a local river. International medical personnel have reported fear delivering medical services to victims of the violence due to intimidation delivered by factions of incendiary Buddhist monks. Nobel prize winner Aung San Suu Kyi has been criticized for her failure to provide an appropriate response to this deprivation of basic human rights.
