This is a quick photoessay celebrating the hundreds of kids, seniors, community leaders, elected officials, and librarians who came out to stop our city from closing Kingsessing Library. One of 11 libraries slated to shut at the beginning of 2009, the rally-ers shared insight as to the power of the library in the community to stop dropouts, help folks get online and find jobs, and to bring together different communities in public space in Southwest Philadelphia!
At 2pm, on Saturday, November 15th, hundreds of Southwest Philadelphia residents came together to protest the proposed closing of Kingsessing Library, a historic Free Library of Philadelphia branch.
Coordinated by the Kingsessing Fifth Division Community of Neighbors, students joined seniors, mothers, neighbors, and elected officials focused on preventing the city from closing and selling the much-beloved community center in early 2009.
