The Streets Are Watching: How To Monitor Police In Your Community
event detailsposted by: Up Against the Law begins: Aug 26, 7:00 pm ends: Aug 26, 9:00 pm location: Wooden Shoe Books, 704 South Street |
Join Up Against the Law for a discussion on police abuse and how to
combat it. The basic idea for this event is to encourage people to
monitor the police in their neighborhoods while providing a radical
analysis of crime reduction through community involvement and
empowerment. There will be a group discussion about the police and
their methods of enforcement, both in Philadelphia and nationwide.
U.A.L. will explain how to conduct copwatch patrols, while examining
our general strategy and the specific tactics we use. We will also do
role-playing and show examples of how to best respond to the police
when they confront and harass you when monitoring them and in everyday
situations.
Up Against the Law is a Philadelphia-based group that strives to
expand community support for victims and survivors of police violence,
to encourage others to exercise their right to keep police forces in
check through direct observation, and to support a culture of
resistance to police oppression. They are an autonomous organization,
opposed to all forms of oppression, and are all-volunteer.
