Years before there was a national holiday honoring Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., the Brandywine Peace Community  stood in nonviolent resistance to war and the war makers on the day commemorating Dr. King’s birth. For the past sixteen years, as part of our ongoing direct action campaign at Lockheed Martin, we have stood on Martin Luther King Day at the Valley Forge complex of world’s largest war profiteer.

The U.S. continues to be held in the grip of a war economy, producing devastating social consequences here at home and enabling war and misery around the world.  Lockheed Martin receives more than $42.7 billion in U.S. taxes annually.  War contracting and weapons production accounts for nearly 90% of Lockheed Martin's income.

The U.S. war in Afghanistan and the continuing occupation of Iraq, U.S. support for Israel's violent occupation of Gaza and the West Bank, as well as policies of war and militarism worldwide, are fueled by Lockheed Martin.  The corporation's war profits are at the center of our war-torn economy in which many, many suffer, and die, while very few profit.

That the words and message of Dr. King resonate in word and deed, plan to join us for peace, in memory of Dr. King, his call for resistance to the "evil triplets of American society: racism, materialism, and militarism" and in nonviolent resistance to Lockheed Martin.

(In the event of snow or ice storm, call 610-544-1818 to check status of the demonstration)
