And three days after Hiroshima, another atomic bomb was dropped on Japan. Ground zero for the world's second atomic bombing was St. Mary's Urakami Roman Catholic Cathedral in Nagasaki.
On Sunday, August 9, beginning at 7:30p.m., the Brandywine Peace Community invites you to join a Nagasaki Day Candlelight Peace Dedication in front of SS Peter & Paul Roman Catholic Cathedral, 18th & Benjamin Franklin Parkway, in memory of the Urakami Cathedral, which was ground zero for the Nagasaki bombing.
The second atomic bombing of Nagasaki destroyed at the time the largest Catholic population in all of Asia. The solemn dedication will include song, large pictorial displays of the aftermath of the bombings of Nagasaki and Hiroshima, and a ceremony of memory, hope, and peace.
The August 9th dedication is being co-sponsored by Phila. Catholic Peace Fellowship.
