August 6th Marks 65th Anniversary of the Atomic Bombing of Hiroshima

August 6, 7 p.m. -  WHITE LIGHT/BLACK RAIN: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki
(HBO documentary, 2007, TV-14, 86 mins., U.S.) will be shown on the large screen at the Peace Center of Delaware County, 1001 Old Sproul Road, in Springfield, PA.  

Academy Award winning filmmaker Steven Okazaki presents an unblinking look at the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, August 6 and 9, 1945, by the United States at the end of World War II. The atomic bombings changed the world forever and, after sixty-five years, continue to inspire argument, denial, and myth. 

WHITE LIGHT/BLACK RAIN: The Destruction of Hiroshima and Nagasaki provides a comprehensive examination of the bombings and their aftermath.  The accounts of atomic bomb survivors, as well as Americans involved in the bombings, are illustrated with paintings and drawings, animation, and historical footage and photographs, including rare or never-before-seen material.

The film showings at the Peace Center of Delaware County are co-sponsored by the Brandywine Peace Community. Doors open for light refreshments at 6:30p.m.  The Peace Center is located at the Springfield Friends Meetinghouse, just off the corner of Old Marple and S. Sproul Roads, behind the Mr. Car Wash.
