Well, the immediate, short-term problem
Submitted by Rich Gardner on Mon, 01/30/2012 - 8:15amis the political race of Democrats versus Republicans. As the Washington Monthly shows in an extensive set of pieces, the consequences of a Republican victory this November are pretty frightening.
Can the two political parties come together to find common solutions? That sure is a nice idea and it would be great if that were possible, but take a look at a piece in our local paper here in Philly. They reprint Charles Krauthammer, who tends to sound reasonable, until you realize he's passing on a very highly selective set of facts and ignoring a very wide selection of other facts.
What people of good will can do is to be active in liberal organizations and to keep pointing out to citizens that the Republican Party is pushing a bankrupt ideology that was tried under G.W. Bush and that failed miserably. President Obama doesn't do everything right (See the latest on drones and guerrilla warfare), but supporting him is a heck of a lot better than the alternative.
