The choice

back during the build-up to the Iraq War was to sit around and do nothing (I had already written letters to the editor and to my Congresspeople) or to go on protests with groups like ANSWER. Yes, I was aware that ANSWER had a lot of communists, etc., in their ranks, but I didn't feel that just sitting around was a tolerable option. There are obviously exceptions of course, but in general I just don't feel that the antiwar movement has the luxury of being picky about who we choose to ally ourselves with.
As to volunteering to help out on a personal level, that's a great thing to do and I respect that, but America saw social progress get sidetracked and saw it get the life sucked out of it during and because of the Vietnam War. I'd like to see us not have a recurrence of that.
