Anti-War Alert!
Wed., Dec. 2, 4:30p.m. 8 years of war. No More! Anti-War protest at Philadelphia City Hall west side (15th & Market Streets.) Day after Obama's announcement to escalate the war and send more U.S. troops to Afghanistan. (Rain or Shine, bring an umbrella)
For more information, call: (610) 544-1818 or email brandywine@juno.com Called by the Brandywine Peace Community, Philly Against War Network, Catholic Peace Fellowship, the Shalom Center, Veteran for Peace #31, Philly ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) Coalition, and Party for Socialism and Liberation (list in formation).
From West Point, President Obama will this coming Tuesday night, announce an additional deployment of US troops to Afghanistan. Advance word is that the size will be 25,000-35,000 additional US troops. Therefore, the Anti-War Alert Emergency Response Demonstration, initiated by the Brandywine Peace Community and Philly Against War with the co-sponsorship of other area peace and anti-war groups, will be on Wednesday, December 2 (the day after the announcement) from 4:30-6 pm at the West side of Philadelphia City Hall (15th and Market Streets.)
We know that, despite what the President says about "exit strategies" or "getting the job done" it will mean an escalation of the war - more war, more money for war, more death. We cannot allow the hopes of a more just society and the promise of the Obama presidency - health care for all, housing, repairing our already war-torn economy - to be buried in the continuing policy of war and militarism.
Polls show that the American now oppose the war in Afghanistan.
We the people MUST send a strong message that this is the wrong course of action. For some suggestions about other courses of action please visit http://www.warresisters.org/node/893
