It is only natural that Garger, one of the least informed fanatics who fill the internet with trash about depleted uranium, would weave it into a story about Cindy Sheehan's run for Congress. Unfortunately, Sheehan is a very poor judge of character and has allowed her good name to be pirated off by numerous other causes and for that reason alone she should be soundly defeated. Garger believes the "eminent scientist" Leuren K Moret who somehow has convinced Garger and others that just being near a "nuclear scientist" makes you one. Moret actually did graduate work in Geology at the Lawrence Berkeley Lab and was a Senior Scientific Technologist in the Center for Applied Scientific Computing at the Lawrence Livermore Lab for less than a year from 1989 to 1990. Garger also believes that fellow presenters Douglas Lind Rokke, aka Major or Doctor Rokke, and Mohammed Daud Miraki are experts in the horrors of DU as well. Rokke neglects to tell the audience or reader that he was promoted to Major in the Army Reserve about 8-10 years after serving during the Gulf War as an activated Reserve First Lieutenant and that the doctorate is really in Vocational Education, not physics or medicine. Miraki claims to have taken photos in Afghanistan that actually appear in a book by a German Medical Doctor who visited Iraq in 1993 and took what he got from Saddam Hussein's government at face value instead of doing proper medical research and verifying that claimed grotesque fetal and infant deformities were really due to depleted uranium exposure and not something else. Two of those photos were identified as being of rare genetic conditions that result from both parents having the extremely rare recessive gene and that could not possibly be due to exposure to depleted uranium. Garger delights in filling the net with trash; she even has the confidence of Rob Kall of OpEdNews; Kall is well meaning and is like Sheehan just a poor judge of character and does not bother to rigorously fact check what he "publishes" on the net. To verify what I say, go to the links in Message 77 at the Yahoo Group DUStory, which was created to post the documents that I got under Freedom of Information Act and other public records act requests. Go read for yourself what Moret and Rokke don't want you to see.
