Local community members and organizations join the Mural Arts Program to craft a new way of creating public art that is more reflective of its communities. Come to a groundbreaking meeting to:

  • Learn how the Philadelphia Mural Arts Program involves neighbors when murals are planned.
  • Share your ideas about what works well and what doesn't work well.
  • Help Mural Arts make sure every voice counts.

Where: Songhai City Cultural Center, 3117 Master Street, Philadelphia
When: Monday April 21, 2008 at 6PM
See a video which explains why this meeting matters: HERE

Why: Since 1996, The Mural Arts Program has produced vibrant public art that works to aesthetically beautify our neighborhoods. As a coalition, we recognize that what MAP accomplishes is of great value to the City of Philadelphia, but we also recognize a recurring theme within the practices of the program that disenables community participation and approval of their murals.

In Brewerytown, The Songhai City Cultural Center will host a community meeting to begin a new process of doing business for the Mural Arts Program, a process that includes communities and creates artwork reflective of the way communities feel about themselves.

Sponsors: The Mural Arts Program, African-American Business and Residents Association (AABRA), Black People United to Inform and Organize (BUIO), Community Preservation Network (CPN), Concerned Citizens for SW Philly, Haddington Residents Association (HRA) and Strawberry Mansion Community Concern
