On March 15, 2008 the Philadelphia Al Nakba Coalition will launch its campaign of 60 days of protests, film events and other activities with a rally in Love Park in opposition to 60 years of Israeli ethnic cleansing, occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people. The seminal event of that oppression took place during Israel's "War of Independence": in actuality a murderous campaign of ethnic cleansing of hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages from which more than 750,000 Palestinians were forcibly expelled. Palestinians are acutely aware of this awful history and refer to their dispossession in 1948 as Al Nakba: the catastrophe. We in the Al Nakba Coalition are seeking to raise awareness of Israel's past and current cruelty and injustice and to call on our government to cease its support for Israel's policies. Concurrently on March 15th there will be a Winter Soldier Testimony in Washington D.C featuring U.S. veterans and civilian survivors of the occupations of Iraq and Afghanistan. The Love Park Rally will have an outdoor broadcast of the Washington event. At 1:00 pm there will be a march on the Israeli Consulate at 230 S. 15th St. in Philadelphia. Free food will be provided throughout the day.
