Boycott All UFPJ and IA Activities

By Lloyd Hart

This weekend's so-called peace rally in Washington D.C. will simply amount to aa enormous waste of time, effort and resources for the simple fact that it will accomplish absolutely nothing. The reason for this is that the leadership of the so-called peace movement that plans these "weekend" events has successfully prevented the natural Gandhian evolution of the movement - that is, the people's natural desire to raise the stakes in the face of continual horrific outrages perpetrated by the government and the cowardly official elected opposition.

Gandhi understood that in the face of dictatorial power and cowardliness of the kind that we face now in America the only possible route to get the attention of the upper glasses as well as the sleeping masses is simply to affect their income. In other words prevent the normal day to day economic processes from going forward. With Gandhi's march to sea to make salt and then to practice non-violent civil disobedience to disrupt the official salt trade the economy in India was disrupted enough to cause movement in the upper classes as well as in the British dictatorship that ruled India at time.

In March 2003 when the war began a very large amount of individuals went out into the streets of American cities and sat down blocking traffic bringing the city's to a grinding halt. The so-called leaders of the peace movement in reaction to these activities came out against this natural evolution of the movement that had developed prior to the war and declared that the peace movement was not prepared to support "confrontational tactics" at that time - basically flushing decades of successful peace and civil rights movement tactics down the toilet in what was clearly an act of deliberate subterfuge that successfully undermined and divided the peace movement leaving many of us with a very bad taste in our mouths and wounded and sinking hearts.

I truly wish there was another way to respond to this insidious and deliberate establishment liberal takeover of the peace movement but there isn't. I will not attend another peace rally until the people who are causing this subterfuge are removed from these committees and replaced by people who will openly support the Gandhian evolution of our movements to disrupt the U.S. economy until the ruling class bends to the peoples will. After the most absurd vote the U.S. Senate has probably ever taken of this ridiculous non binding resolution that simply pays lip service to the American public without the logical vote to defund the Iraq Project surely all those who have attended these so-called peace rallies that only amount to "Oh, just accept the fascism already" group therapy sessions will also see the logic in boycotting all United for Peace and Justice rallies and activities as well as International Answer rallies and activities.

I once said that we should attend all peace rallies regardless of whether those rallies are organized by CIA backed stooges for the simple fact that all those people coming together will create a culture that will evolve naturally into what occurred that first week of the war. It was a beautiful sight to see - all those people blocking traffic and bravely being arrested in a nationwide act of Gandhian non-violent civil disobedience.

The so-called Liberal progressives at the top of the peace movement that spoke out against those acts of non-violent civil disobedience will have to live the rest of their lives with the deaths of all of those innocent Iraqi men, women and children as well as the American soldiers on their conscience.

America most definitely needs to have this resource war in Iraq, this oil war connected to the domestic American economy through nonviolent civil disobedient disruption of the domestic American economy. The American public is ashamed of what is happening in their name and would most likely join what will be a temporary disruption of the U.S. economy in order to institute long term reforms to said economy that indeed may institute the best that the American Heart has to offer.

The liberals and conservatives are raising the stakes once again by allowing the escalation of further genocide in Iraq. We can do something about it.

Please join me in this boycott so that we may evolve as a movement.

If you can not bring yourself to boycott this weekends activities then please - I beg you, use the event to organize large scale acts of non-violent civil disobedience to disrupt the U.S. economy outside the UFPJ and IA shroud of deceit.

With a heavy heart your friend

Wrong about Gandhi and UFPJ

"The reason for this is that the leadership of the so-called peace movement that plans these "weekend" events has successfully prevented the natural Gandhian evolution of the movement - that is, the people's natural desire to raise the stakes in the face of continual horrific outrages perpetrated by the government and the cowardly official elected opposition."

Is that what Gandhi was doing when he opposed Indian independence (citing violence against the British occupiers as evidence that Indians were not "ready" for independence)? Or when he didn't lift a finger to oppose the British imperialists' lynching of Bhaghat Singh, Sukhdev, and Rajguru?

"I truly wish there was another way to respond to this insidious and deliberate establishment liberal takeover of the peace movement but there isn't. I will not attend another peace rally until the people who are causing this subterfuge are removed from these committees and replaced..."

UFPJ is an establishment liberal takeover of the peace movement? UFPJ is a peace coalition. It's leadership is actually very left-wing, but it is representative of a large-cross section of the general anti-war movement. I'm sorry that you don't find the reality of democratically-run mass coalition work as palatable as your "Gandhian" petit-bourgeois fantasies. Nevertheless, you seriously need to learn your history.

Reality?

So Gandhi didn't use non violent civil disobedience to disrupt the economy?

And Gandhi is to blame for British imperialism.

I am sure Gandhi made mistakes like getting shot, but we all do - make mistakes.

UFPJ is not a democratically run mass coalition. It is a Liberal bubble that desperately avoids upsetting the democratic party.

Steve Gilliard piece

I thought Gilliard had some really good things to say about protests and ending the Vietnam War, and yes, A lot of what he says is directly opposed to a lot of your points.

Center Left

Imagine beating 50 gal oil drums instead of carrying signs? Think they would hear us then?
