On March 20th West Chester University Students for a Democratic Society gathered to protest the sixth anniversary of the war in Iraq. We met at the Sykes Student Union building at four o’clock with a few members of the Chester County Peace Movement, War Resisters League, and Veterans for Peace.
Three campus police also met us there, but they didn’t do much but stand around and talk to each other.
We held banners that read “Education, Not Occupation”, “Free Gaza”, and “Free Palestine”. There were peace flags and black flags, and creative signs made by students.
After gathering we marched the five blocks up to the Chester County Courthouse. Here we were met by one police officer, who told us we couldn’t use the megaphone, and several counter-protesters from the ultra-nationalist right-wing group American Sheepdogs.
