Yesterday police raided the Occupy Oakland encampment. One protester, an Iraq War veteran was hit in the face with a tear gas canister. Legal observers and media were kept away from the raid.

Yesterday police violently raided the Occupy Oakland encampment in California. This first video shows a protester, an Iraq Veteran, getting hit in the face with a tear gas canister.

When other protesters came to the aid of the victim, this video shows clearly an Oakland police officer throwing concussion grenades at the people who come to the aid of the person who was hit in the face with the hot, dangerous tear gas canister.

This is maybe some of the worst footage I've seen of police violence at a protest:

OWS Must Engage In Non-violent Civil Disobedient Traffic Blocking Now!

By Lloyd Hart

If OWS does not up the stakes to Non-violent Civil Disobedient Traffic Blocking every week day during the working hours the 1% will simply turn their backs and go about their business of reducing America to a zero benefit, minimum wage economy where the cost of living is kept artificially high by a completely corrupt commodities exchange on Wall St.

12 noon, Saturday September 17th is the arrival date for thousands of people tired of the corporate stranglehold on economic policies. Wall Street, New York City is the place to show up ready to protest using the "legal encampment" strategy.

According to a federal court ruling in 2000, the use of "public sleeping as a means of symbolic expression" is allowed on public sidewalks in New York City. (METROPOLITAN COUNCIL, INC., Plaintiff, -against- HOWARD SAFIR, Commissioner of the New York City Police Department, et al., June 12, 2000 [99 F. Supp. 2d 438; 2000 U.S. Dist.]).

Middle East Protests Continue for Unmet Demands - by Stephen Lendman

So far, weeks of regional protests achieved nothing. Despite ousting Egypt's Mubarak and Tunisia's Ben Ali, their regimes remain in place, offering nothing but unfulfilled promises.

On February 26, Egyptians again protested in Tahrir Square. This time, however, military forces confronted them, Reuters headlining, "Egypt military angers protesters with show of force," saying:

"Soldiers used force on Saturday to break up a protest demanding more political reform in Egypt, demonstrators said, in the toughest move yet against opposition activists who accused the country's military rulers of 'betraying the people.' "

It landed, but it's too soon to know where it's going or how committed workers are to stay the course and spread it to other US states.

On February 16, however, former Senator Russ Feingold launched Progressives United.org (PU), an initiative he hopes will inspire "a new progressive movement" to hold elected officials accountable by challenging corporate influence in politics.

It also opposes the Supreme Court's January 2010 Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission decision, sanctioning unlimited corporate spending in elections (the one dollar = one vote ruling by America's supremely pro-business court). Feingold called it:

Public Anger and Distrust of Business and Government - by Stephen Lendman

An April 2010 Pew Research Center (PRC) for the People & Press study and others report growing public anger, distrust, and hostility toward business and government because of a "perfect storm of conditions" - wrecked economies, fueling "epic discontent" toward responsible officials.

PRC found nearly 80% of Americans don't trust government to do the right thing, the highest distrust level in half a century, this writer's April 28 article, titled "Growing Public Anger in America," discussing its findings, accessed through the following link:

A newly formed faction of the Seeds of Peace Collective, named Eastern Seeds of Peace, is committed to organizing medical infrastructure in support of the expected large-scale actions against the International Pittsburgh Coal Conference and G20 Summit in Pittsburgh in late September. This is a call to action for street medics, clinicians, herbalists, and all those interested in contributing to the medical support that is crucial to the success of the planned marches and demonstrations.

In late May, it was announced that both the G20 Summit and the International Pittsburgh Coal Conference will be hosted by the city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania during the same week (9/20-9/25) in late September. Two groups of activists, the G20 Resistance Project and the Pittsburgh Organizing Group, have taken responsibility for organizing a response to these gala events and they have been hard at work for the past two months building the general infrastructure to support an activist response to these events.
