California Governor Candidate Stewart Alexander Will Challenge Obama’s Health Bill

by

Obama’s health care bill may qualify as the most non-democratic legislative act in U.S. history, where backroom deals were cut with U.S. Representatives and Senators and the voice of the nation was completely ignored. Many congressional Democrats will likely pay the price for this assault on democracy at the voting polls during the 2010 Elections.

In May, California Attorney General Jerry Brown announced his full support for Obama’s health care bill that recently passed in Congress; the contentious health care bill passed over the strong rejection of a majority of Americans.  Stewart Alexander, a Candidate for California Governor, says if he is elected, he will challenge Obama’s health bill.

Recently, 14 state attorneys general signed onto one lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S. government.  The lawsuit challenges the constitutionally of the health care bill which requires most Americans to have an insurance plan or else be fined by the federal government.  The lawsuit reads, “The Constitution nowhere authorizes the United States to mandate, either directly or under threat of penalty, that all citizens and legal residents have qualifying health care coverage.”

Alexander says, “Jerry Brown should have joined the other attorneys general in the lawsuit; instead, he backed this health care bill that is still very unpopular with Californians and working people.”  Alexander has cited that the health care bill will be a tax on working people and will provide the greatest benefit for the insurance industry.  Alexander also notes that the cost for Obama’s health bill has been greatly under-estimated; “I believe this health care program will cost taxpayers trillions of dollars and will not provide adequate health care coverage for all.  However, the bottom line is, I do not believe the Constitution give the government the right to force the people to buy health insurance.”

Jerry Brown

Jerry Brown should have joined the other attorneys general in the lawsuit; instead, he backed this health care bill that is still very unpopular with Californians and working people. I agree!
